How JASA began:
JASA began in February 2006, as several ladies in Columbia, SC discovered that they had all obtained one of the record time (under 2 minutes) sell out tickets to "An Afternoon with Oprah Winfrey" at her Live Your Best Life Workshop. Although the event was Saturday, February 25,2006 at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center, Charleston, SC, the ladies met prior for dinner in anticipation and celebration to plan their travel arrangements. From that very point special connections were being made and a unique sisterhood was formed. Remarkably, after that inspiring afternoon with Oprah, several of the ladies had dinner in Charleston and experienced a wonderful time of heartfelt sharing with one another—like sisters. This was the catalyst of the decision to forge on in the empowerment and purpose gained with a united vision. They returned to Columbia, Georgia and North Carolina with a mission as JASA-Just A Sister Away.
